Ashley’s boudoir session at The Downtown Loft was something she never thought she’d do. She had always been her own worst critic.
She knew she wasn’t “horrible to look at,” [her words] but that didn’t stop the self-doubt from creeping in. Between long hours at work and little time for herself, confidence wasn’t exactly at the top of her priority list.
“I wanted to do this session so I could be more confident,” she had written when she booked. “Maybe it’ll help me stop being so hard on myself.”
That morning, she drove two hours from Albertville to Tuscaloosa, her mind bouncing between excitement and nerves. She wasn’t a makeup person—never had been. She’d never even worn lashes before. And now, here she was, stepping into a boudoir session, completely out of her norm.
“I’m just rolling with it,” she had said.
And once she stepped into The Downtown Loft, she did.
Ashley didn’t walk into the studio unsure—she walked in ready.
Sure, she had never worn lashes before. Sure, she wasn’t a full-glam girlie. But from the moment she stepped in, she just rolled with it—and before long, the nerves were drowned out by laughter.
“I honestly don’t have much of a life outside of work,” she had said before the session.
But for those few hours, life was right here—in the way she threw her head back laughing mid-pose, in the way she embraced every movement, in the way she let go of overthinking and just enjoyed herself.
She started in deep purple lace, the color bold against her skin, the details delicate but striking. Then, she slipped into the mesh rhinestone bodysuit like it was made for her, the sparkles catching the studio light. There was no hesitation, no second-guessing—just her, moving with confidence, laughing through every pose.
This wasn’t just a session.
It was fun.
It was easy.
It was the kind of joy you can’t fake—the kind that happens when you stop worrying about how you should look and just exist in the moment.
Somewhere between the laughter and the last few sets, something shifted.
During her boudoir session at The Downtown Loft, Ashley found herself laughing, letting go, and finally just being present. She had never done anything like this before, but by the end, she wasn’t thinking about that anymore. She wasn’t thinking about how long she had worked that week or how little time she normally had for herself.
She was just here.
Her sleeve tattoo stretched over her arm as she moved, bold and beautiful, a piece of herself she had always loved. The contrast of it against the mood lighting and the water droplets rolling down her skin—it was the perfect balance of strength and softness, just like her.
“I wanted to do this session so I could be more confident,” she had written.
But looking at the images later, she realized—
she already was.
Ashley’s boudoir session at The Downtown Loft wasn’t about looking perfect—it was about showing up as herself and leaving with something real.
