When preparing for a boudoir session, most people focus on what they should wear—but knowing what to avoid can make just as big of a difference.
The biggest mistake? Bringing pieces that don’t fit well.
Anything too tight can dig into the skin and create lines that show in photos. On the flip side, pieces that are too loose won’t shape your body the way you want. The goal isn’t a specific size—it’s a good fit.
Another thing to avoid is overly complicated outfits.
If something takes five minutes to put on, adjust, or tie, it usually doesn’t photograph well. Simple pieces almost always look better on camera. Lace bodysuits, matching sets, oversized sweaters, or even a clean white sheet can create a stronger final image than something overly detailed.
You’ll also want to skip anything worn out or stretched.
Even if it’s your favorite piece, cameras pick up texture and wear more than you’d expect. What looks “fine” in person can look completely different in a photo.
At Elevation Boudoir, we help guide outfit choices before your session and provide access to a client closet, so you’re not left guessing. Most clients bring a few options, and we refine from there.
One thing people don’t realize is that you don’t need a huge wardrobe.
A few solid pieces that fit well and photograph cleanly will always outperform a suitcase full of “maybe” outfits.
If you’re unsure, keep it simple.
The focus should always be on you—not the outfit.
